If the last few years taught us anything, it is that having a diverse economy with a stable foundation a key to prosperity. To be certain, Raleigh didn't weather the Great Recession unscathed, but it did perform much better than its peers across the United States. Three major factors that contributed to the City's performance were its position as the seat of North Carolina's government, the presence of several major education institutions and a large and sophisticated health care sector. Add to that a wide range of technology and life science companies, and you have the kind of industry diversity financial planners (and city planners) dream of.
